Sugar Maple, Ash or Birch

Maple is the most popular wood that we sell, and the most popular species of wood found in MLB. Maple is the densest of the three options and is stiffer feeling than Ash or Birch. Some claim maple is capable of hitting balls further, and in our experience this may be slightly true. One thing is certain; in our experience it is highly durable and has excellent pop.

Ash is the bat that dominated baseball for a very long time until the late 1990’s when Maple became a viable option. Ash is slightly less dense and lighter than Maple. Ash is more flexible making some players claim that Ash gives a whip effect.

Birch is the newcomer of the group with a good deal of upward potential. Birch is between Maple and Ash in many categories including flexibility, density and weight. We believe you will begin to see more and more Birch bats in the near future.
